Miami Moms Blog Welcomes: MIA Mom Dianna Hill

Hello South Florida! My name is Dianna Hill, and I am so excited to be a part of this amazing team of women on the Miami Moms Blog.  In my first ever blog post, I’d like to tell you a little about myself, my family, and the type of parent I strive to be.

You can take the girl out of Miami but you cant take Miami out of the girl

I have always loved the melting pot that is South Florida. Born and raised in Miami, however, at the ripe age of 18 I could not wait to get out! I always knew I wanted to go away for college and Softball was my ticket. I received a scholarship to a Junior college in the small town of Marion, Alabama. There, I met some of the most amazing group of women and formed an unbreakable bond. I made memories and learned lessons I will take with me forever. After graduating there, I attended the University of Alabama followed by Judson College where I received a Bachelors degree in Biology and became a registered nurse. 

Army Wife Army Life

During my time in Alabama, I met a chivalrous, kind hearted boy who made me laugh every chance he got.  I quickly knew Jesse was not like anyone I had ever dated and those butterflies I felt on our first few dates have yet to go away 11 years later!  Jesse enlisted in the Army at 18 years old.  He told me from the get-go that it was a family tradition, and that he would be in for the long haul.  So the day I said “I do” to him, I also said “I do” to the United States Army!

I love being an Army wife and all that comes with that title. Our most recent venture was a 2.5 year deployment to Germany which brought us so many amazing memories and friends.  I think Miami is stuck with us for a while, so I’m excited to see what adventures the MIA brings us.

Jessie Lynn 

On October 14th, 2015  at 6:36 pm in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, I became a mom.  My daughter, Jessie Lynn Hill, was born at a whopping 6lbs 7 oz. and 20 inches long. My life was forever changed for the better.  Ready or not, this tiny human was counting on me to be the best version of myself and I will always strive to be that for her.  The moment I held my daughter, I was immediately filled with purpose.  I knew at that moment that God made me her mom for a reason – that she was mine and I was hers.

I was uncertain of many things in the first few weeks of motherhood (actually, until this day I’m still uncertain of a lot of things) but my motherly instincts kicked in and I have been fulfilled ever since.  Jessie is 4 years old now and I am so amazed by her kindness, silliness, and ability to see the good in every situation even at such a young age.  She has traveled to over 10 countries and is such a well adjusted little girl. She is the perfect mix of a southern belle and Miami girl! Everyday is a new adventure with her and I am beyond blessed to be her mommy.

Spencer William

Oops, I did it again! Spencer William was born on July 13th, 2018 in Miami, Florida. A “momma’s boy” he truly is and I wouldn’t have it any other way.  At just 1.5 years old, Spencer has shown me so much about being a mom! Days with him are always exciting. He likes to keep us all on our toes and runs full force at everything he does.  He walked at 8 months and almost had a full set of teeth by his 1st birthday. We knew then we were in for a lifetime of fun! He is my cuddle buddy and daily entertainment. I am so amazed by his love for learning and still at awe with the amount of food he can consume!  I love being your mom, bud, and I can’t wait to watch you grow!

Dianna Hill: Mom & Wife by Day, Nurse by Night

I have always known I wanted to be a nurse.  I guess I’m one of the lucky few that has known her passion from a young age. The moment I saw my first delivery in nursing school, I knew that labor and delivery was my calling.  That feeling of watching a baby being born and hearing their first cry is EVERYTHING.  While that is the goal of every delivery, there is so much more that nurses do before, during, and after labor.

My job is to help moms feel at ease with the labor process and help her understand everything that is happening. Let’s be real, labor is scary! We are there when a mom comes in for her inductions, there for her when she is complete and ready to push, there for her when she holds her baby for the first time, there for her when she is sitting up for her spinal in the OR, and there for her when the doctor tells her we can’t find a heartbeat. Labor nurses are a rare and special breed and I hope to be able to share some of my insights with the moms in our community and talk about some very important topics about pregnancy, labor, and postpartum!
