Miami Moms Blog Welcomes: MIA Mom Becky Salgado

Hi, Miami Moms! My name is Rebecca but please, call me Becky. When you grow up in a Cuban household, hearing your full name means trouble.

MIAMI

I was born and raised in Miami. I’ve found it to be a polarizing city – people either love it or hate it. Though many associate it with beaches, flashy cars, and rude drivers, for me, it’s a place infused with the culture of my grandparents and parents. It’s where I grew up, playing with my sister and making lifelong friends. It’s where I went to school, college and grad school. Where I met my husband. Where we got married and had our daughter and son.

There are so many corners around this city that stir up such deep feelings and beautiful memories. Although I’ve been to other parts of the world and dream of summers in Boston, Miami will always be home. Can you imagine living in a place where you can’t get croquetas and tiny cups of coffee out of a small window?

MOMS

I didn’t always want to be a mom. For years I wanted to focus on a career, moving up the corporate ladder. That is until one of my best friends had her first daughter. Holding her in my arms changed me forever.

My road to motherhood wasn’t perfect. We lost our first baby the week after hearing its heartbeat for the first time. Though it was extremely painful, it brought my husband and me closer and just reaffirmed that I wanted to have kids. Fast forward to today, and I am a proud mom to my sweet Caroline, a 4-going-on-14 headstrong little girl with a soft heart and a big imagination. And my 1-year-old Benjamin, who is handsome like his daddy, has a strong aversion to naps like his mom and does a killer duck impression (it’s the cutest and melts my heart every time). I feel incredibly blessed to be on this journey of motherhood. I don’t take a single day for granted. My kids bring me more joy than I ever thought possible, and I pray daily that I can be even half of the mom they deserve.
