Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground: A Must-See Resort

It is easy to say that Walt Disney World is one of the most popular destinations for family vacations. The places to see and discover are endless. However, there is one place most people don’t know about; Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. This hidden gem is my family’s favorite and it’s not just because we love camping. There are many reasons to love this resort.

Get ready for a great outdoor adventure!

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campfire Sing-a-long

What’s a camping trip without the campfire? This activity is the highlight of our trip every time we go to Fort Wilderness. Every evening at 6:00 PM they light up the campfire for marshmallow roasting. At 7:00 PM get ready for a sing-a-long of your favorite Disney songs followed by a dance party with Chip and Dale. Once the party is over, a movie is played on a huge projector screen so you can watch your favorite Disney movie under the stars.

Stay Cool at the Pool

The main pool at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground is always poppin’! You can enjoy the 67-foot slide or if you have little ones, they have a mini water park with a little slide and lots of water squirting everywhere. If you’re around the pool at 3 o’clock, you’ll be able to take advantage of some poolside games. Every day there is something new.

Splashin’ Around with Daddy

You’ll never hear, “I’m Bored!”

This resort is full of daily activities. You can go to the bike barn and rent a bike, you can also rent a canoe and go canoeing. Didn’t bring your fishing rod? No problem, you can rent those too. If you love going for walks, this 700-acre resort has plenty of trails to venture.

Poolside Games on a Rainy Day

If you’re all about #equestrianlife, this resort is for you. Fort Wilderness offers a guided horse back ride on their horse trail. If you’re lucky enough you may even see deer and turkeys.

Little ones can also take advantage of riding ponies. If your child weighs less than 80lbs, and are shorter than 48 inches, you’ll be able to walk the horse yourself along the pony ride trail.

These ponies are the sweetest! This is where you can ride one of Cinderella’s ponies!

Fort Wilderness also house some of the Percheron & Clysdale horses they use at the parks for their carriages. These horses are truly breath-taking when you see them in person.

Where to stay?

My family and I always go camping with our travel trailer. My favorite loop is the 1600 loop because it is pet friendly and not too far from the pool. Other good options for loops are 1000, 1100 and 1400.

No Camper? No Problem! Want to experience this campground in a more glamorous way? Fort Wilderness also has the option of staying in a log cabin. You can still enjoy all of the amenities this campground offers in your own little log Cabin.

Not staying in this resort? Disney has such a great transportation system that you can go resort hopping one of the days you are not planning to visit the parks. You can go from your resort to Disney Springs and take the bus to Fort Wilderness. You can enjoy all of what this wonderful resort has to offer without staying here.

This is our Happy Place
